Lace up your running shoes and join other runners, walkers, and strollers in downtown Birmingham for this year’s Monkey C Monkey Run event. This exciting annual 5K and 1-mile fun run benefiting Smile-A-Mile kicks off Saturday, September 7, and you can still register online. Make sure to claim your spot for this fundraiser that puts the emphasis on “fun.”
Race Details
The Monkey C Monkey Run 5K starts and ends at Smile-A-Mile Place, 1600 2nd Avenue South. This family-friendly event benefits Smile-A-Mile’s year-round programs supporting Alabama families affected by childhood cancer.
Registration fees are as follows:
- Monkey C Monkey Run 5K – $30
- Monkey C Monkey Sleep (donate and skip the run) – $30
- 1 Mile Fun Run / Walk – $20
For an extra $2, you can opt for official chip timing by The Right Time. Only chip-timed participants are eligible for awards. Awards go to top 3 overall 5K participants based on chip time, top male and female in each age group based on chip time, and team awards based on judges’ discretion.
Packet pickup will be on September 5 and 6 at Smile-A-Mile Place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Race day events include a dove release honoring SAM children, 5K awards and fun run prizes, live music from The Toddfather, and post-race food and activities including a photo booth and inflatables.

What began more than 30 years ago with a single summer camp session for pediatric cancer patients has blossomed into an invaluable resource for children with cancer and their families in Alabama. The organization provides support and hope for these families throughout their cancer treatment journey. Educational programming, outreach efforts, and fundraising events like Monkey C Monkey Run help promote the good work done by Smile-A-Mile.
