Toyota Earns SmartWay Award for Environmental Performance

EPA LogoEvery year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizes top leaders under its SmartWay Transport program. This year, an Excellence Award was presented by the program to Toyota Logistics Services (TLS) for continually moving around 2.2 million of their Toyota and Lexus vehicles to dealerships.

As the flagship program of the EPA, SmartWay was designed to continually develop ways to improve fuel efficiency, reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases brought about by the transportation industry. Ever since SmartWay was launched in 2004, over 3000 of its US partners have saved approximately 65 million oil barrels or $8.1 billion in fuel costs.

Using the SmartWay Assessment Tool, Toyota makes sure that their carriers have been thoroughly tested and verified. As a result, these carriers have been verified to help in reducing fuel consumption and also in lowering smoke emissions. Because of its commitment in maintaining its SmartWay certification, TSL only employs and invests on new technology and top industry practices.

The award was given during the SmartWay awards ceremony held on October 22, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. Being recognized and awarded as among the top one percent of SmartWay’s partners truly brings great honor for the efforts TSL makes to ensure their carriers comply with the program’s standards.
