The exciting reveal of the Toyota FT-1 Concept has been two years in the making. Its audacious design is invigorating. The FT-1 reflects Toyota’s legendary reputation for quality and reliability merged with a passionate, more satisfying ownership experience.

Calty Design Research devised the FT-1 Concept to be the ultimate, or number 1, “Future Toyota.” It is the ultimate expression of Toyota’s rich sports coupe heritage and driving itself in its purest form. The aggressive, track-focused FT-1 boasts a commanding presence that takes shock and awe to the next level. The FT-1 hopes to inspire a heart-pounding sense of excitement.

The FT-1 Concept’s “function-sculpting” design is muscular and athletic, with purposeful features like airflow management elements, including retractable rear wing. Classic sports car proportions are upheld with the cockpit far rearward and low slung for optimized visibility. Inside the cockpit, the FT-1 presents an intimate and highly functional, driver-focused environment. The functional yet minimalistic, the FT-1 connects and integrates the driver, with a delta-shaped display zone, light-weight components including seat surface, and a color heads-up display that projects vital information within the driver’s line of sight.

*Toyota’s North American design studio, CALTY initiated, conceptualized, and styled the FT-1 concept. Sony/Polyphony did not influence the creative vehicle design process. The Gran Turismo 6 Real Driving Simulator was used as a pitch tool with top management to gain approval for the final Calty designed concept.
