Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, and the whole family can get involved in making these charming crafts.
Wax Hearts
You can add some color to any bright spot in your home with these wax paper hearts. First, use a pencil sharpener to create wax shavings from a few crayons, and consider the colors you want the hearts to be as you select the crayons to sharpen. Next, create a crease in a 12-by-16-inch sheet of plain wax paper, and disperse the crayon shavings all around the paper. Fold the paper closed and crimp all the edges to keep the shavings from escaping. You’ll need to iron the paper to melt the crayon shavings, so lay out some craft paper to protect your ironing surface from any spills that might occur. Put another sheet of craft paper over the folded wax paper, then iron it on a medium setting until the shavings have all melted. Once the paper is cool, cut out heart shapes and use them in cards or as hanging décor.
Felt Fortunes
Fortune cookies always have a cheerful little message inside, and you can craft your own sweet greetings in these red felt fortune cookies. You’ll need felt, ribbon, floral wire, fabric shears, wire cutters, and craft glue, plus some paper and candies to hide inside the finished gift. Start by cutting circles out of the felt, then glue a short length of wire in the middle, and hide the wire with ribbon. When the glue is dry, fold the felt over to conceal the ribbon on the inside. Then, fold the sides of the half circle toward each other to form the familiar cookie shape. All that’s left to do now is write a heartwarming message on a piece of paper to sneak inside with some candies.
