About the Show
Swan Lake is set to the music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and was choreographed by Marius Petipa. The ballet focuses on Odette. Once a beautiful princess, she has been turned into a swan. As part of her curse, she spends the daylight hours swimming in a tear-filled lake. When the sun goes down, she returns to her human form. There’s only one way to break the curse, and that is to find a prince who will swear his love and devotion for her. The story is mesmerizing, heartbreaking, and uplifting all at once. You will run the gamut of emotions when you see Swan Lake.

The 2017–2018 Season
The Alabama Ballet’s 2017–2018 season is nearing the end, but Swan Lake isn’t the last show of the season. That honor goes to La Fille Mal Gardée. This show will hit the stage on April 6–8 at the BJCC. This is a departure from Swan Lake. While Swan Lake is known for its sad themes, this ballet is light-hearted and comedic. It’s also a love story, and it follows Lise and Colas. Lise’s mother wants her to marry into money, but Lise wants to marry Colas, a farmer. Hijinks ensue throughout the ballet until the heartwarming ending. If you enjoy a comedic ballet, be sure to get tickets for this one. Tickets start at $30 for this performance.
