Alabama Wildlife Center’s Chirps and Chips Charity Event

Chirps and Chips Charity Event

If you’re on the hunt for something different and fun to do before the summer is over, mark your calendar for August 19. The Alabama Wildlife Center is hosting the annual Chirps and Chips gala, and it’s sure to be an eventful evening. Proceeds from the Chirps and Chips benefit go to the Alabama Wildlife Center’s efforts to preserve and care for wild birds native to Alabama and educate the public about local wildlife.

More About the Alabama Wildlife Center

The wildlife center was founded in 1977 as small volunteer organization based in a small home. Today, the wildlife rehabilitation center is located at Oak Mountain State Park and is the largest of its kind in Alabama. The center cares for and rehabilitates over 2,000 birds from over 100 species each year.

The Alabama Wildlife Center’s mission is two-fold. It provides medical care and rehabilitation to native wild birds with the goal of reintroducing them into the wild. It also educates the public in Alabama in the hopes of growing appreciation for wildlife. In addition to education and rehabilitation, the center operates a hotline for wildlife help and emergencies.

More About Chirps and Chips

Raptor Force, which is the junior board for the Alabama Wildlife Center, is hosting the Chirps and Chips event. This has been a major fundraising source for the center for six years. The gala is a night of casino-themed fun all in an effort to support the rehabilitation and education efforts of the wildlife center. Those who attend will spend the night living like a high roller, playing craps, backgammon, and roulette without having to spring for the steep price of a flight out to Las Vegas.

This year’s event will take place at the Rosewood Hall, which is on Soho Square in Homewood, Alabama. The fundraiser begins at 7 p.m. and the fun goes until 10 p.m. Tickets to the fundraiser are $50 and include casino-themed games, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, entertainment by the band High Tide, and a silent auction. In addition to the entertainment and food, live owls, hawks, and other raptors from the center will be on-site for guests to view and learn about.

This year’s Chirps and Chips will help the Alabama Wildlife Center in its efforts to build a new bird enclosure. This brand-new habitat will house the center’s Eurasian eagle owl, which is one of the center’s education raptors. In the near future, the center plans to add two American bald eagles to the enclosure, one of which already resides at the facility full time, unable to return to the wild due to injury.
