From lowest to highest, the Highlander trim options are the LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited, and Hybrid Limited. The LE and XLE are perhaps the most commonly selected options, but selecting between them doesn’t have to be problem.

Configurations

The differences between the Toyota Highlander LE and XLE begin with their possible configurations. The XLE lets you pick between FWD and AWD along with the 3.5-liter V6 engine combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The LE, which is the base trim, offers these configurations along with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder with 6-speed automatic and FWD.

Exterior Features

In terms of exterior features, the Highlander XLE offers significantly more, both standard and optional, than the LE. These include standard fog lights, a moonroof, flip-up rear hatch window, a liftgate that is adjustable and has jam protection, and Chromtec roof rails. In addition, while both trims have 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, the XLE’s have a machined face.

Interior Features

Inside the vehicles, the Highlander XLE has three-zone climate automatic climate control as opposed to the air conditioning in two locations and with additional vents in the LE. The XLE also has an upgraded version of Entune (Entune Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite compared to Entune Audio) and a standard 4.2-inch LCD Multi-Information Display in color. Finally, the LE features fabric-trimmed seats, while the XLE’s are trimmed in leather.
