Football fans, rejoice: You no longer have to wait through the long off-season until fall brings your favorite sport back to life. The Birmingham Iron opened its debut season on February 10 at Legion Field against the Memphis Express.
Football Beyond Fall
The Birmingham Iron is one of eight teams that comprise the Alliance of American Football, a spring football league set to shake things up on the gridiron. The beloved sport once relegated to fall and early winter can, in this way, spring eternal – or at least tide you over with some exciting head-to-heads from February through April.
The Teams
Joining the Birmingham Iron in the Alliance are the Arizona Hotshots, the Atlanta Legends, the Memphis Express, the Orlando Apollos, the Salt Lake Stallions, the San Antonio Commanders, and the San Diego Fleet. You’ll surely spot some familiar names on the Iron roster, which boasts talented players from Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, and other high-profile teams.
Birmingham Home Games
You have a number of opportunities to see the Iron on home turf at Birmingham’s own Legion Field. Get your tickets online to see one of these exciting match-ups:
- Sunday, March 3 – Birmingham Iron vs. San Antonio Commanders, 3 p.m.
- Saturday, March 9 – Birmingham Iron vs. Orlando Apollos, 1 p.m.
