If you are in the market for a 2014 Toyota truck and undecided about the Toyota Tundra vs. Toyota Tacoma, here are a few of the key differences that are likely to most influence your buying decision.
2014 Toyota Tundra vs Toyota Tacoma: Under the Hood
The Tundra can be bought with any one of three different engines, and the Tacoma is available with a choice of two. The Tundra, being a full-sized truck, unsurprisingly has heavier duty engines for the extra muscle required. The base engine is a 4-liter V-6 design, churning out 278 pound-feet of torque and 270 horsepower. If that’s not enough, you can opt for a 4.6-liter V-8 or the monstrous V-8 5.7-liter powerhouse, which delivers 381 horsepower, 401 pound-feet of torque and can comfortably haul more than 10,000 lbs. in weight.
The Tacoma meanwhile is a compact pickup with less in the way of industrial power. You can choose to have your Tacoma powered by a 2.7-liter, four cylinder motor or, for a bit more go, there’s the 4-liter V-6 with 236 HP and 266 pound-feet of torque on tap.
Toyota Tundra vs Toyota Tacoma: Maneuverability
The Toyota Tundra is a big truck, so if your garage isn’t spacious your Tundra is going to have to live on the driveway. Furthermore, its size makes it incredibly spacious, but unwieldy when compared with the compact Tacoma. If you are going to use the Tundra for trips around town, get used to long walks from the grocery store door to the outlying parking spot you chose to save all that tight maneuvering.
With a much tighter turning circle, the Toyota Tacoma might be the better choice if you’re planning for your truck to double up as everyday family transportation. The size of the Tacoma is unlikely to challenge the garage space or the driver’s parking abilities to the same extent as the Tundra.
It’s all in the Inches
In case you hadn’t noticed already, the most notable difference between the two trucks is size. The Tundra is five inches wider and stands a full six inches taller than the Tacoma. For most truck buyers this is a deciding factor. Do you need the space of a full-sized truck or the convenience of a compact? We’ll be delighted to set the Tundra and Tacoma side-by-side for you here at LBT of Birmingham, AL, so you can see the differences for yourself.
