friends dining outdoors

Summer is in full swing, and it’s the perfect time to get out and experience some of the best of what Birmingham has to offer! One of our favorite warm-weather outings is gathering with friends and family for an al fresco lunch or dinner at one of Birmingham’s amazing local restaurants. We’ve compiled a list of some of our must-eats where you can enjoy a great meal, fresh air, and maybe even some live entertainment.

Post Office Pies

This neighborhood pizzeria uses locally-sourced, fresh ingredients and makes all their dough in-house. Their pizzas are hand-tossed and perfectly cooked in wood-fired brick ovens. They also offer their very own homemade sodas! Located in the hip Avondale area, Post Office Pies has an incredible patio and family-friendly environment.

SAW’s Soul Kitchen

Not in the mood for pizza? Step right next door to SAW’s Soul Kitchen which shares its outdoor patio with Post Office Pies. Featuring traditional southern dishes in a casual atmosphere, the cozy vibe is just what you need to help you kick back and relax.

MELT

If it’s comfort food you’re after, MELT puts their very own spin on the classic grilled cheese sandwich. MELT’s Avondale location is the perfect spot for family dining. They have board games you can play while you wait for your food. Dogs are also welcome.

The Fig

Located in Cahaba Heights, The Fig (formerly known as The Fig Tree Café) serves up Southern classics with a modern twist. Check them out for Saturday or Sunday brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Carrigan’s Public House

Conveniently located downtown, Carrigan’s Public House has outdoor seating areas both downstairs and on the rooftop patio. While the Morris Avenue location is only for ages 21 and older, their Lakeview and Mountain Brook restaurants welcome kiddos and dogs alike.
