Birmingham, Alabama may be a large city with a huge population, but nothing stops residents from indulging in the Southern traditions of family, friendships, hospitality, and good old fashioned fun! What is more fun than laughing with your family over some well-played pranks? Below are a few family-friendly pranks to help you live up the laughter without worrying about hard feelings or broken bones.
Swap Out Dinner and Dessert
You can start by making a cake look like regular toast. First, start by cutting the cake to look like toast. Then you can try adding colored frosting as cheese or leave it white to look like mayo. Add in fruits (like strawberries and kiwis) for added effect. But don’t stop there, make a sundae out of whipped potatoes, with brown gravy ‘caramel’ and a cherry tomato on top. This way the family’s taste buds are very confused and everyone gets a laugh!
Don’t Skip the Snacks
If you think meal time fun has to be limited to dinner time – think again. Empty (or eat!) a bag of Cheetos, then fill it up with baby carrots and reseal the bag. Pass it to your kids along with a cup of jello and tell them it’s juice. They get to enjoy a healthier snack, and you get to enjoy the puzzled looks on their faces.
Tape Over the Remote
Apply a small piece of tape over your remote’s sensor and watch as your husband and kids try to turn on the TV, or change the station to their favorite show. You may even want to time them to see how long someone thinks to actually walk up to the TV to change the channel the good old fashioned way!
Air Horn Your Door
For those of us with a more mischievous streak, duct tape an air horn to the wall so that when a door is opened, it will cause the air horn to go off. Give your family a good start – and a good laugh.
From candied ‘apples’ (onions) to exploding balloon cakes, everyone has their own distinctive pranking style. And here in Birmingham, Alabama, we have plenty of fun and style to go around. Keep your family rolling in laughs and out of the ER this year with fun, safe pranks.
