Every year the city of Birmingham holds an event for the lighting of the Christmas tree in downtown. This year, the event is on December 6th at 5pm until 7pm. Come out to this free event to enjoy live music along with arts and crafts. There will even be some great food to purchase. We are also expecting to be visited by Santa and Mrs. Claus at some point.
Christmas Parade
Unfortunately the Christmas parade has to be cancelled again due to budget cuts. Usually, Birmingham partners help fund the event, but this year there is just not enough funding to keep it going. We hope to see the return of the parade next year.
Other Christmas Tree Lightings
Hoover is also hosting its own Christmas tree lighting. This is a tradition for the suburban area of Birmingham, and if you can’t get enough of the one in downtown then be sure to visit Hoover. This event takes place on December 1st at 5pm at the Hoover City Hall Parking Lot. There is parking at the Hoover Public Library and shuttles take you to the free event. It will include a Hoover City School Choir Performance, a Christmas tree lighting done by students, a snow play area with fake snow for the kids to play in, a visit from Santa who comes in on a fire truck, and refreshments. Bring a camera and be ready to take lots of pictures including pictures of the kids with Santa.
