Wintertime brings cooler temperatures in Birmingham, AL, forcing many people indoors. Some of your regular activities may take a hiatus during these months, but that doesn’t mean you can’t replace them with other exciting things to do. You can occupy your kids’ time and fun with different activities this season. Regardless of the weather or what is happening in the winter, there are always entertaining ideas for children, teens, and the whole family.
Go for a Nature Walk
Just because it’s winter, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Different sights and sounds are all around you and your kids during this time of year. Bundle up and take a walk on a nature trail or in the park. It’s a good opportunity for pictures as well. If you have school-aged children or toddlers, it may be fun to look for animal tracks. Animals such as deer, rabbits, squirrels, and birds may be out and about. In some areas, you may notice different colors this time of year too.
Try Some Winter Crafts
If you don’t want to go outside and brave the falling temperatures, you can still get into the spirit of winter indoors. You and your kids can make some fun crafts with items you may already have at home. Using coffee filters, scissors, and paint, you and your children can make colorful snowflakes to display on your walls or windows. Firstly, fold the coffee filters twice and then crease the edges. Along the folds, cut shapes such as triangles. Next, unfold the filters and paint them the colors you desire.
Furthermore, another popular winter craft is to paint with ice. This may be a new one for you and your kids. All you have to do is fill an ice-cube tray and then add a drop of food coloring (whatever colors you like), place popsicle sticks in each ice cube mold, and freeze the water. Next, take out the trays after a couple of hours. You can then use the cubes as paints to create beautiful pictures and designs.

Playdough Snowmen
Using the familiar modeling clay, you can make a collection of snowmen to place on tables, shelves, mantles, or wherever else you would like to celebrate winter. White clay is best, of course, but you can use any color you would like. You can use glitter, googly eyes, and buttons to design your snowmen. You can use pipe cleaners for the arms. This is an activity that even toddlers can take part in.
You don’t need to hide away and have a boring winter. You and your kids can enjoy the season with some of these creative and fun activities.
