Aldridge Gardens
Since Aldridge Gardens opened in 2002, the 30-acre former property of well-known horticulturist Eddie Aldridge and his wife Kay has become a popular attraction in the greater Birmingham area. The young garden showcases hydrangeas, including the Snowflake Hydrangea, which was patented by Mr. Aldridge and is now the official flower of the City of Hoover.
Other features include an event venue and gallery in the couple’s former home, an outdoor pavilion, a six-acre lake and a half-mile walking trail. The Gardens also host plant sales, art exhibits and shows, classes and seminars, bird walks, fishing days, concerts and more.
Float Down The Cahaba River
Bring your own float and float down the Cahaba River! There are also rope swings or you can canoe, kayak, and swim!
Color Tunnel
This awesome Color Tunnel is located on 14th street under the railroad tracks. It is a huge network of LEDs installed in the tunnel.

Take a FREE Golden Flake Factory Tour to see how Golden Flake Chips are made. You’ll get to see all of the steps from potato to snack. The tour is a fun, learning experience for school kids and adults alike! You will see the production process of Golden Flake snacks, from fresh whole potatoes and corn to the finished great tasting packaged snacks on their way to your local retailer.
The Heart Of Dixie Railroad Museum
Every Saturday at The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum, you can see all of the collections of railway equipment and home of the Polar Express. Entrance to the museum is free, but there is a charge for train rides. The museum is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and operation of historically significant railway equipment. Our exhibits, operating railroads, and educational programs function as both a unique means of tourism and recreation, and also a way to preserve the rich history of Alabama and our nation.
