Toyota is once again expanding the Toyota Prius lineup, this time by returning a favorite to the mix. Drivers in Birmingham and across the country were disappointed when the Prius Plug-In Hybrid took a temporary hiatus, but they didn’t have to wait long for its return. This model will be coming back in the form of the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime.
Hybrid or EV
Thanks to the innovative design of the Prius Prime’s powertrain, you can drive this vehicle as either a hybrid or an EV, depending on your mood. The total range will take you over 600 miles if it is completely charged and has a full gas tank. Or you can stick to EV mode and run off of pure electricity for 22 miles. Fuel saving is a given with the 2017 Prius Prime, as it gives you 120 MPGe*.
When it comes time to charge your Prius Prime, you will be able to do so in 5.5 hours by using your standard household outlet and the included charging cable. Or take advantage of a public charging station with 240 volts of power to complete this task in a bit less than 2.5 hours.
Prius Prime Unique Design
In addition to its unique powertrain compared to its Prius siblings, the Prius Prime has special styling in the front and rear. You will notice four-projector LED headlights along with LED signals and taillights that increase visibility and style. The rear glass and the hatch are different from other Prius models, enhancing the aerodynamics of this particular hybrid. The Prius Prime is also the first Toyota to have a construction reinforced by carbon fiber, giving it a lightweight hatch that is easy to lift.
