You don’t have to travel far to hear a first-rate symphony orchestra performance. The Alabama Symphony Orchestra is led by internationally acclaimed Maestro Carlos Izcaray and has a variety of breathtaking performances throughout the year. It also has the EBSCO Masterworks Series. This series features works from many of the biggest names in classical music. Each part of the series has something different to offer music lovers. While some of the parts have already passed, there are three more parts coming up in the near future. Attend one of these or go to all three so you can get a big dose of classical music.

May 5-6

Maestro Izcaray will conduct the Barber’s Violin Concerto with Daniel Szasz on May 5-6 at 8 p.m. Daniel Szasz will be the soloist during the Violin Concerto. The performance will include two other compositions, as well.

May 19-20

The symphony will take the stage again on May 19-20 at 8 p.m. This time, it will perform Gershwin’s Concerto in F, along with two additional compositions. Christopher Confessore will conduct this time, while Terrance Wilson is the soloist.

June 2-3

See the final masterworks performance of the season on June 2-3 at 8 p.m. Titled Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, you will also hear music from Glinka and Brahms. Andreas Delfs will handle the conducting duties, while Benjamin Beilman will take on the role of lead violinist.

Pre-Concert Program

If you go to one of these concerts, you can attend a Concerts Comments Program before the performance. The program begins at 7 p.m. at Reynolds-Kirschbaum Hall. It is free, and you can ask the conductor, soloists, and other speakers questions. This is a great way to learn more about the performances.
