Professional ice hockey has a long history in Birmingham, Alabama, and the city has embraced it from the beginning. The Bulls were first introduced in the Magic City when the Toronto Toros relocated from Canada in the 1970s. Today, you can cheer on the Birmingham Bulls at their home ice in Pelham.

Bulls Return

While professional hockey in Birmingham went on hiatus for a while, a new iteration of the Bulls was born in 2017. In just their second season, the Bulls advanced to the SPHL championship series, led by the league’s MVP Josh Harris, goaltender of the year Mavric Parks, and coach of the year Jamey Hicks. While the team lost to their rival, the Huntsville Havoc, they built a new foundation for hockey in the Birmingham area.

The Bulls offer plenty of merch for you to consider while at the game, however you can also find many items to order on their web site. From socks to jerseys to shirts to hats – you name it. And if you’d like something for free, keep your eye out for one of their special giveaways such as Hawaiian Jersey Night on February 25, Adult Jersey Night on March 3, and Adult Cap Night on March 10.

Fans are always welcome to Birmingham Bulls hockey games. Opposing goalies – not so much. In fact, the fans in section 108 have dubbed themselves “10H8 The Rowdy Bunch” and made it their mission to pester whoever is in net for the visiting team.

Try Hockey For Free

Did you know that there is a strong youth hockey program in Birmingham? The travel youth Birmingham Bulls hockey team as well as several house (rec) teams play locally in Pelham. Boys and girls as young as six years old and up to 18 years old participate. However, as far as first getting on the ice, many begin with a Try Hockey For Free session then follow up with Learn To Play lessons if they enjoy it.
